Position Summary: The Director is responsible for strategic leadership and overall management of the NYU Shanghai Health and Wellness Services. He or she must be able to provide both clinical services and administrative duties, and has the authority for the design, development, implementation, assessment, and coordination of health-related programs and services for students at NYU Shanghai. He or she must have experience running a health clinic, center or department, and experience working in a university setting is a plus.

The Director oversees and manages contract service provision and relationships with external providers for direct medical care and clinical transportation needs; provides direct student mental health services; manages the department budget; supervises NYU SH staff responsible for wellness programs and services to students; rotates the emergency on-call function with other staff; and coordinates with support services for students with disabilities. He or she is responsible for developing, implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of appropriate health promotion campaigns, programs, workshops, and activities to promote healthy choices by students.
In collaboration with NYU NY, the Director determines health policy, protocols, and best practices to ensure a high standard of care and safety for students. The Director demonstrates leadership; sensitivity to differing cultural practices and perspectives represented in the diverse, multi-national, multi-cultural student body; and the energy, creativity, and judgment to promote and inspire healthy choices among the student body and staff. Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese a plus but not required.

Qualifications/Required Education: Prefer M.D., Medical specialty in Psychiatry strongly preferred. In some cases, clinicians with LCSW, MBA/MPA or PhD degrees will be considered.

Required Experience: At least six years of significant, progressively complex administrative experience in a healthcare setting; budget and contract negotiation and management experience; mental health experience; demonstrated clinical supervisory experience. He or she must have experience running a health clinic, center or department.

Preferred Experience:
Candidates with public health or public administration training; experience in clinical preventive services; experience in academic, undergraduate setting, and/or understanding of and appreciation for the emotional, social, and psychological development of undergraduate (and eventually graduate) students in a diverse academic community. Experience working in a university setting a plus. Ability to speak Mandarin Chinese a plus but not required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Deft managerial skills — of people, resources, activities, and ideas. Reliability — must be someone with whom students, staff, and faculty feel comfortable. Counseling/youth consulting expertise and clinical supervision credential. Outstanding written and oral communication skills/ Analytic skill — in problem solving, assessing outcomes, planning operations, and managing resources. Broad knowledge of healthcare, mental health services, clinical preventive services, and health promotions. Demonstrates highest ethical and integrity standards
